Tried “Cook Out”

We try most restaurants in our area eventually…even those that represent ‘new’ fast food concepts…

This is “Cook Out” in Maryville Tennessee.  With the stonework and wood, real or not, it has an upscale look to it for a fast food outlet…

The wood and stone theme, (even with benches at some tables, continues on the inside of “Cook Out”.  It’s sort of like a north woods barbeque theme…

I ordered the "Huge Burger", i.e., a bacon cheeseburger… ($4.38) It was not good!  The burger was overcooked and the meat lacked that ‘good beef flavor’, the bacon was tasteless and I’m not sure what that yellow stuff was, but I think that it was supposed to be cheese.

Laurie decided to go for the Bacon Cheddar Dog. ($1.99) The hot dog was fairly tasteless and unremarkable, and as I noted above, the bacon lacked any significant flavor and she agreed that the ‘yellow stuff’ just wasn’t very palatable!  She also had a Fancy Vanilla Shake with her hot dog. ($2.79) As they might say in New Jersey…‘Forgetaboutit!’

We will not return to Cook Out… We don’t like McDonald’s or Burger King's food either so perhaps were just not great fast food critics.  However, we will eat at a Hardee’s for a fuel stop as necessary and we think that Wendy’s has the best fast food burgers.  In our opinion, Burger Fi and similar chains are another step up above traditional fast food.

In fairness, someone must like this growing fast food restaurant chain.  Cook Out now has over 140 locations in the southeastern USA.  This particular restaurant is located at 1301 West Lamar Alexander Parkway/US Hwy. 321 in Maryville Tennessee.  The company website is at http://eatcookout.com/.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit!

  1. You should have tried one of their specialty shakes, they are very flavorful. My favorite is the peanut butter fudge shake. Doesn't get much better than that, but I agree the food is mediocre.

  2. Yes, someone must like this kind of food or they would also go out of business. I couldn't eat either of those dishes just judging them by their looks alone. Smart move to steer clear of it in the future.
