Every
once in a while Groupon.com offers a discounted dining coupon/”Groupon” for a restaurant
that we like or that has received positive comments via social media or the
local newspapers. (Yes, we do still get a newspaper!)
So…This
is another Groupon.com dining experience in the greater Knoxville Tennessee
area…
This is
Flaharty’s Irish Pub and Sports Grill on US Highway 411 in Maryville
Tennessee. For some reason, the name
‘Flaharty’ is no longer included on the external signing for this
establishment or on the menu on its website… Flaharty’s is still printed on the
customer’s receipts and its still part of their website address.
The
inside looks much the same as it did during our previous visits, although now
that it is called a ‘sports bar’, flat screen televisions are mounted all
around the dining room and the adjacent bar area. While I preferred this restaurant without the
distraction of the TVs, I can understand the need to draw additional customers. There isn’t any business that is tougher to
succeed in than restaurant and bar ventures.
This
isn’t a great photo but these Irish Corned Beef Bites ($7.99) are our favorite
appetizers at Flaharty’s Irish Pub.
These little balls of goodness consist of corned beef, Swiss cheese,
cream cheese and sauerkraut, all rolled in bread crumbs then deep fried. They are served with a spicy mustard sauce. They are really different than any
run-of-the-mill appetizer that one would normally find on a menu.
Other
Irish themed appetizers include Mini Boxtys ($7.99), which are Irish potato
pancakes topped with your choice of Chicken and Bacon served with a Guinness
cheese sauce, or Corned Beef and Cabbage served with stone-ground mustard. For
$6.99, there also is the Guinness Cheddar Dip.
This is a mound of thinly sliced potato pub chips served with a side of
homemade Guinness sharp cheddar cheese sauce.
Laurie
ordered this pasta dish from the “Irish Fare” portion of the dinner menu. It is the Irish Vodka Pasta ($8.99). This dish consists of rigatoni pasta sautéed
in a marinara sauce with cilantro, cream, parmigiana cheese and vodka. She thought that it was pretty good.
I went
for a couple of my favorites…Bangers and Mash! ($9.99) This plate of
satisfaction included traditional Dublin-style fresh sausages grilled to a
golden brown then served on mashed potatoes and topped with rich Guinness brown
gravy. It came with those pieces of dry
toast and some nice spicy mustard. I
modified this dish just a bit, ordering Colcannon, (mashed potatoes blended
with cabbage), instead of the straight and normal mashed potatoes. I really did enjoy my dinner…
The
Groupon saved me about $9.00. The other
positive was that Laurie had a vodka and tonic for $2.99 and my Miller Lite was
only $1.99! We like this restaurant and
we have yet another groupon…so we will return to Flaharty’s in the near future!
I guess
that I need to go with the change… The Irish Pub and Sports Grill is located at
1720 West Broadway (US Hwy. 411) in Maryville Tennessee. Phone: 865-724-1300. Website: http://www.flahertysirishpub.com/.
Just
click on any of the photos if you’re hungry!
Thanks
for stopping by for a visit!

I don't believe I've been to an Irish pub since London. My Irish SIL would love this place. The coupon was a nice savings and the drinks are really inexpensive.
