On one
of our visits to East Tennessee we’d stopped at a local restaurant for lunch
and we’d ordered BBQ. We didn’t think
that it was very good so, we just never returned to that restaurant. Then it burned to the ground and it was
rebuilt.
One
fall day, we decided to stop in and give it another try…
After
it was rebuilt, we noticed that it seemed to have a lot of customers so we’d
decided that maybe our first impression was perhaps too hasty and we should try
it again. This is The Cabin Restaurant
on TN Hwy. 72 in Loudon Tennessee.
This is
the friendly sign near the front door that welcomes diners to The Cabin Restaurant.
For
this visit, we’d decided to go with non-BBQ items from the menu and if we liked
what we ordered, we’d come back and give the BBQ another chance….
As you
can see, the interior of The Cabin Restaurant is wood, wood and more wood. It reminded us of some of the places in
northern Wisconsin or the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The restaurant was very neat and clean and
our server was very pleasant…
Laurie
violated our BBQ ban just a little… She ordered The Smokehouse Burger. ($8.99)
This was a hickory smoked hamburger topped with cheese, bacon and an onion
ring, along with lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise. She was worried that it would be overcooked
as the restaurant’s policy is to cook burgers to medium well. Our waitress said that she’d ask the cook to
stop with medium and it should be juicy enough to still have lots of
flavor.
It
turned out that she was right. It was a
good burger and Laurie liked the French fries too! They actually approached McDonald’s French
fries in quality… The BBQ sauce on her hamburger was too sweet for my taste. I also tasted the other sauces on the table
and they just weren’t up my alley.
I went
with our original plan and I ordered the Catfish Sandwich ($6.59). As you can see it was a big hunk of lightly
breaded catfish served on a hoagie bun.
I opted for the coleslaw instead of the French fries. The catfish sandwich was big and very
satisfactory plus I liked the coleslaw…
We’ll
have to return to The Cabin to try some of their other sandwich offerings or
their dinner specialties. Some of the
latter include a Southern Fried Steak, Country Fried Pork Chops, Turkey and
Dressing and Homemade Meatloaf. Some of
the sides include Fried Okra, Sweet Potato Casserole, Turnip Greens, Mac n’
Cheese and Fried Green Beans. Laurie
will probably try the BBQ…
