It’s been
242 years since the Continental Congress declared that the original 13 American
colonies regarded themselves as an independent nation. The Declaration of Independence was adopted on
July 4, 1776. We were no longer part of
the British Empire.
Since
then, we have had many reasons to celebrate and every 4th of July in
recent times has featured beautiful and impressive fireworks displays. This Independence Day celebration featured the Statue of Liberty as
the centerpiece…
Whenever
I think of the 4th of July, I think about my father who, along with thousands of others, was killed
in WWII so that we could continue as a free country and carry on with the
American Dream. In this photo, with my
cousins’ family's assistance, we’re displaying my father’s 48 star American burial
flag. Thanks Dad! Without our victory in WWII, our nation would look much different today...and our continued independence would be questionable.
Fireworks
over Washington D.C.! Unfortunately,
that’s about the most productive event that occurs in our Nation’s Capital
these days. Divide and conquer is the
game being played by both political parties. No
compromise! It’s a good thing that our
forefathers, with their faults and differences, were willing to work together…
Otherwise, we’d still be part of the British Empire or perhaps just a grouping
of independent countries in North America.
In any
case, this is our nation’s birthday… Happy Birthday to the United States of
America! May our divisions be healed and
our future bright…
Take
Care, Big Daddy Dave
