Breakfast in Crystal River Florida

We felt pretty fortunate to come across Cody’s Original Roadhouse for dinner on the previous day.  During our search for a place for dinner, we’d noticed a likely breakfast spot for the next morning…

This is…or was AJ’s Café.  At the time of our visit, this restaurant had just changed ownership and it is now Sarah’s Diner.  New signs were on order when we stopped by for breakfast…

The restaurant is bigger than it looks on the outside.  When you enter the restaurant, it has the typical diner atmosphere.  There is also a back area, which is where we were seated.  I am much more comfortable sitting at a table rather than in a booth.

Laurie went for a scrambled egg wrap for her breakfast.  She thought that it was pretty good.  Of course, she’s happy if she has sour cream to put on just about anything!

My doctor would have been a little displeased if he saw my morning wake up meal… The hash browns were plentiful and crispy enough, the bacon was good, no one can mess up link sausages (unless they sit in a warming pan for a long time) and my over easy eggs were perfect.  My breakfast also came with an order of toast.

Dawn kept it simple.  She ordered grits with butter and brown sugar.  She was happy but I confess that I still don’t understand grits.  The only grits I’ve ever had that I really liked was Cheesy Shrimp and Grits at a restaurant in Loudon Tennessee that is no longer in business.

Service was just fine, the premises were clean and well maintained and the prices were right!  AJ’s Café, now known as Sarah’s Diner, is located at 216 Northeast US Hwy. 19 in Crystal River Florida.  Phone: 352-794-3899.  At the moment there is no website for Sarah’s Diner but one is supposedly under construction… You can learn more by going to Trip Advisor at http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g34162-d3419365-Reviews-Aj_s_Cafe-Crystal_River_Florida.html.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit!

  1. Thanks for posting this before I've been to the breakfast table, Dave! :-) Because, now I'm starved and want a breakfast just like yours! I get the grits, love it, but the brown sugar is a different touch and a must try. Breakfast is the best meal of the day and this restaurant did it justice. Have a great weekend filled with a couple of great breakfasts!
