When
Laurie’s sister and brother-in-law (Bonnie and Bill) visited us here in the
Knoxville area, we’d stopped for a beer and appetizer at a new establishment
that we hadn’t noticed before…Double Dogs on Kingston Pike in Knoxville.
Laurie
and I enjoyed the appetizers and the beer, so we recently stopped by for dinner…
Double
Dogs Chow House opened their Kingston Pike location in July of this year… It is
the company’s seventh location, with 2 in Knoxville, 2 in Nashville and 3 in
Kentucky.
This
photo of 3 dogs adorns one bit of wall space.
The blonde dog at the front right is Bo. Chancey is the smiling black Lab mix in the back. These 2 dogs are
the source for the name of this growing regional restaurant chain.
FYI…The
menu and signing appropriately are in human and dog “speak”, with the verbiage
“Sit, Stay, Speak”.
These
photos show the dining area and bar at Double Dogs. Like so many restaurants these days, the décor
is industrial chic with a boatload of televisions tuned to all the sports
channels lining the walls.
Our one
complaint about the dining area is that the number of low tables is very
limited. Generally speaking, older folks
are much more comfortable at regular tables with seating at a normal height.
Double
Dogs features over 100 craft and imported beers at each of their
restaurants. As you can see in this
photo, with 16 handles showing, they certainly have a decent selection on tap!
On this occasion
we had a Sweetwater 420 ($5.75) and a Lagunitas IPA. ($5.75) The first time we visited Double Dogs, it was
a Stella Artois ($4.50) and a Bell’s 2 Hearted Ale. ($5.50)
This time
when it came to an appetizer, we decided to repeat history ordering the Spicy
Cheese Toast. ($7.49) This version of cheese toast is served on a hot house
baked baguette that’s brushed with extra virgin olive oil and topped with a
blend of 5 different cheese along with red pepper flakes and seasonings. It was served with the house marinara sauce.
We like
cheese and we really like good melted cheese toast or bread. We also like a bit of spice/heat, and this
version of cheese toast was as good as any we’ve ever had!
Laurie backed
up the appetizer with Double Dogs Bacon Cheeseburger. ($8.99) The burger was
topped with 2 slices of American cheese, 2 slices of hickory smoked bacon, lettuce,
tomato and mayonnaise. It was served
medium rare as ordered…and Laurie was a happy diner!
As a side
to share, we ordered a basket of Double Dogs Hand-cut French fries. ($2.29)
They were very nice French fries…a cut above average!
When I
saw a Pork Tenderloin Sandwich on the menu, I was done with my decision
making! You just don’t see this item on
too many menus and I wanted to compare it with my favorite pork tenderloin in
the Knoxville area, found at Hot Rod 50s in Maryville.
Although I'm a little concerned that my pork tenderloin sandwich isn't on the on-line menu, we will
return! This Double Dogs Chow House is
located at 8910 Kingston Pike (US Hwy. 11 and 70) in Knoxville Tennessee. It is open 7 days a week. Phone: 865-670-7555. Website: https://www.doubledogs.biz/.

Thanks
for going to the dogs with us!
Take Care,
Big Daddy Dave
It looks like they serve good food, for sure! Love that burger and fries, and the spicy cheese toast too! I can't think of any place around here that serves a Pork Tenderloin Sandwich, great that it's your fave now. It looks really tasty! I so agree about the seating, I like to be closer to the floor too. 😊 Have a good day, Dave!
