New Dining Option at the Golf Course

What a world we live in!  The corona virus is a huge damper on the economy and on many if not most people’s lives.  The stock market is in free fall and people are panicked in that regard as well as their health risk.  Of course, older folks are most at risk from both problems…

Depending on what happens in the next couple of weeks, we may not be out and about much…so I won’t have much to post about on my blog site.  Time will tell for all of us.

In any case, this short post revolves around food and it features a couple of critters too…

Our neighbor Sherry brought us a new bird feeder from their cruise and a stopover at St. Kitts in the Caribbean Sea.  It features 2 birds with outstretched wings and it was all carved from a coconut.  Very creative!

Laurie put mealworms inside it for the bluebirds.  Initially she hung this feeder off the back deck with the other feeders…but the birds were all frightened and avoided all of our feeding stations.  Then she moved the coconut feeder to the front porch and about a day later, the bluebirds found their new semi-exclusive meal worm feeder!

Time for people food… Although Laurie had previously dined at the new Tellico Village Toqua Grill and Sports Bar, I hadn’t.  Since it is fairly close to our home, I decided that it would be our destination for dinner.  This clubhouse and restaurant replaced an old and cramped facility and it includes an expanded kitchen as well.

This is the entry or hallway into the Toqua Clubhouse.  Note the golf themed wallpaper… The entrance to the restaurant is on the left and the golf pro shop is at the far right.

The first photo shows the dining area with the bar to the left as you enter the restaurant and the second photo just provides a better view of the room.  While there are enough TVs for sports viewing, customers aren’t completely overwhelmed by screens.

We were early so the restaurant wasn’t very busy.  Two tables were obviously occupied by golfers but before we were done, business had picked up quite a bit.  The full bar gained a bit of business as well.

We decided to start out our dinner with an appetizer.  It was all about the Fried Pickle Slices. ($7.00) They came with Buttermilk Ranch or sriracha Ranch for dipping.  The sriracha Ranch was of course for me!  These fried pickles were a cut above the norm and we would definitely order them again!

For our beverages, Laurie went with a Vodka and Tonic Tall with 2 lime slices ($4.00), and I had my usual, a Miller Lite. ($3.50) Alcohol prices seemed to be quite reasonable but Laurie said that she couldn’t taste the vodka in her drink.

After those fried pickles, Laurie didn’t feel too hungry so she ordered the Buffalo Chicken Salad. ($13.00) As it turned out, the buffalo chicken chunks were quite spicy, too spicy for Laurie!  We were surprised as Tellico Village caters to retired folks and spicy is not a word we can use for food around here.  ‘Unfortunately’, I was forced to eat that spicy chicken…

As for myself, I decided to go with the Ultimate Club Sandwich sided with coleslaw. ($11.00) This sandwich creation was piled with ham, turkey, roast beef, bacon, cheddar and Swiss cheese, plus lettuce and tomato on toasted Texas toast with a bit of mayonnaise. (It comes with onion as well but I had it left off my sandwich)

This was an excellent sandwich, especially for a carnivore like me!  It could have used a little more mayonnaise but for me, the next time I order it, I’ll just ask for that sriracha mayo on the side!  The coleslaw wasn't my favorite...

The Toqua Sports Bar and Grill (Toqua Clubhouse) is located at 200 Toqua Club Way in Loudon Tennessee.  Both the restaurant and golf course are open to the public.  Phone: 865-458-1330.  This restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.  They are on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/ToquaSportsBar/.

On the way home we turned onto to our street from the opposite point that we normally do…and Laurie hastily snapped these fuzzy photos of our local deer.  They just wouldn't pose for her!  Sadly, with all the home building going on, we don’t see them as often as we used to.

Just click on any of the photos to enlarge them…

Thanks for stopping by for a visit!

Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  1. That bird feeder is really something and glad the bluebirds braved the design. We've been discussing our virus plans and believe at some point we'll just hole-up here until it's safe to go out - laid in a good supply of paper products.

  2. That Buffalo Chicken Salad looks delicious, friend David, and so does that Club Sandwich! Love that coconut bird feeder from St Kitts. I travelled the Caribbean a couple of years ago. I loved St Kitts and Nevis, but St Lucia was my favorite (my son in law is a native from That island:) Other than that, stay healthy, stay safe. Alberta has 19 COVID-19, but none yet in our Central Health Region. Love, cat.

  3. How nice of your neighbors! Great bird feeder, unique! I can see why it scared some. Your sandwich looks delicious, yum! We've had our fill of deer here, always around somewhere and trying to get up to bird feeders, etc. Have a good rest of the week!
