Where to
go for dinner? Then I remembered that
our friends Norm and Linda had mentioned that they’d had a meal recently at a
restaurant attached to the Sloan’s gas station and store complex in Madisonville
Tennessee.
This is the
Tennessee River Grill in Madisonville. It
used to be called Henry’s Restaurant. Apparently
it had been operated by someone else for the last couple of years. However, in 2017, Julie and Darrin Henry returned
to remodel and reopen the restaurant.
FYI…Sloan’s
operates the attached gas station and store.
This local family owned retailer founded in 1901 also operates stores in
Loudon (Tellico Village), Etowah and Vonore Tennessee. All of them are different…selling everything
from gas to fishing gear and from building materials to lawn and garden
materials. Website: https://sloansstore.com/index.html.
This is
the main dining area in the Tennessee River Grill. It is a warm and straightforward room and it
was clean and well maintained as well. FYI…there
is an outside patio area for those who like to dine in the great outdoors.
There is
a partial wall at one end of the main dining room that is probably used for
groups. The wood on the walls is covered
with a wide assortment of signs and 2 big TV's dominate both sides of the
room. It has a totally different ‘feel’
to it…
My dinner
came with the salad bar. There was a
decent selection of produce and other goodies available and everything was
fresh and chilled. As you can see, I
loaded up…not exactly a healthy salad!
My doctor wouldn’t approve…
We
decided to order an appetizer and we went for the Fried Pickles with Chipotle
Sauce. ($5.99) They weren’t exceptional but they were tasty…and we really liked the chipotle sauce.
Other
appetizers on the menu include Mozzarella Sticks, Fried Mushrooms, Southwest
Eggrolls, Beer Battered Onion Rings, Cheese Fries and Chicken Fajita
Quesadillas.
While the
menu includes Entrees (including BBQ ribs), plus Pastas, Dinner Salads, Pizzas
and Subs, Laurie opted for the Burger and Sandwich section of the menu, going
for one of her favorite sandwiches, a Patty Melt. ($5.39) Her hamburger patty was
served on grilled marbled rye bread with Swiss cheese and grilled onions. She was pleased with her choice for dinner…
I went a
bit off the reservation for my dinner. I don't usually order steak when we eat out.
This was my 10 oz. Ribeye Steak with steamed broccoli. ($15.49) It was
cooked medium rare as requested and the flavor was very nice. It wasn’t the most tender ribeye I’ve ever
had but for the price, it was about what I expected. The broccoli was steamed correctly, coming
out not too hard nor too mushy. The
added mozzarella cheese was an addition 50 cents.
FYI, our
servers name was Madison…and she mentioned that everyone has joked or commented
about her name…given the fact that she grew up in Madisonville. She was sweet, efficient and very helpful.
We’ll
return to Tennessee River Grill for another look at the menu. In particular, I’ll have to give their BBQ
ribs a try. This restaurant is located
at 4500 US Hwy. 411 in Madisonville Tennessee.
