When we
drove back to East Tennessee after our most recent trip to the St. Louis
Missouri area, we brought Laurie’s sister Bonnie along with us. She had planned on spending a few days with
us just relaxing and chilling out.
As usual,
I’d gone on-line in an effort to find a new place for a late lunch on our way
back home…
This is
Father Tom’s Pub on North Cedar Avenue in Cookeville. We were told that ‘Father Tom’ is a retired
professor from Tennessee Technological University, which is located in
Cookeville. I’m sure that folks living
around Cookeville are thankful for Father Tom’s ‘second’ career. After all, who doesn’t love a good pub!
The
preceding photos provide views of Father Tom’s Pub from both the front and the
back of the public area. It definitely
does have that warm and friendly pub feel to it!
There is
an outdoor patio for those patrons who are so inclined…
Hey…we
were in a pub so what did you expect?! I
was fairly good considering the fact that I was driving. I had a half-pint of Bell’s Two-Hearted
($3.00), Laurie had a pint of Calfkiller J Henry ($5.00) and Bonnie had a pint
of Turtle Anarchy Catfish. ($5.00)
Father
Tom’s has lots of atmosphere going for it.
We really liked the idea of the wine cork wall map!
Yes, they
also serve a decent selection of wines at Father Tom’s Pub… It is a full-fledged
bar offering a wide variety of bourbon, whisky and rye as well as a fine
grouping of Scotch including ‘Talisker’ from the Isle of Skye and ‘Scapa’ from Orkney Islands.
Laurie
took this photo of her sister Bonnie and me with our beers…
Love the
beer/brew names popping up from the plethora of craft brewers. Uncle Tom’s pub offers a lot of beer choices…both
bottled and draft. As far as beer names go,
here’s a few other examples from the draft selection: Ballast Point Unfiltered
Sculpin; Jackalope Lovebird; Jig Head Alpine White, and; Falls City Hipster
Repellant IPA.
Time for
the food! This was “The Big Cheese”, a
Colby, Jack and Sourdough Grilled Cheese Sandwich with French Fries. ($6.00) It
was very good!
This sandwich
creation is called “The Nine Iron”. It
was a terrific combination of corned beef, smoked turkey, Benton’s Bacon, Swiss
Cheese, Spring Mix of Greens, Tomato and Garlic Aioli! ($8.00) I left the red
onions off my sandwich…
We didn’t
all have sandwiches… This is Father Tom’s Fish and Chips offering. ($8.00) “The
Fish ‘n’ Chips plate includes 2 beer battered cod filets served with house made
tartare sauce and malt vinegar aioli.
Another winner!
We will
have to return for dinner sometime in the not too distant future. That menu is really a bit upscale
item-wise. Father Tom or his chef
apparently has a bit of a gourmet leaning.
For example, how about “The Grace”? ($19.00) This is a red wine
marinated petit filet and lemon grilled asparagus atop a bed of butternut
squash grits garnished with sage.
Just to
add a little ‘something’ to Father Tom’s setting, this handsome and eye
catching mural is nearing completion right across the street…
Father
Tom’s Pub is the real deal! It has the
brews and spirits, great pub food, the right atmosphere as well as very
reasonable pricing. Father Tom’s Pub is
located at 32 North Cedar Avenue in Cookeville Tennessee. They are open from 11 AM until 12 AM Tuesday
through Saturday. Phone: 932-854-9484. Website: http://fathertomspub.com/.
