More Shopping plus Family Photos

Another day with visitors and another day out wandering around the greater Knoxville area.  As per the ladies, we had to check out a couple more stores to see what we might want!

The Good Neighbors Shoppe is a recycle/used products shop of the first order.  Having been in plenty of stores in the course of my career that ranged from high end operations like Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom, to discount/second use outlets like Goodwill and Habitat for Humanity, I’ve seen hundreds of stores.

Based on my experience, the Good Neighbors Shoppe in Lenoir City Tennessee is a first class second use/product recycling retail operation.

The store is well lite, well signed, clean and organized.  Clothing is grouped by type and style as well as size.  This store sells donated used products but the items must be clean and in good shape or they don’t accept them.  Items on hand range from books to shoes and dresses to suits, dishware, wall décor, furniture and CDs.  The prices are low and the quality is high!

On this occasion, Bill bought a shirt and Laurie bought a blouse.  In the past Laurie and I have purchased other clothing items as well as picture frames.  We have donated many items to this cause several times over the years.

Sorry for the blurry photo…but this sign is what the Good Neighbors Shop is all about!  Not only has this operation donated $3.6 million to the local community over the past 17 years, it’s been so successful that they could afford to build this new larger store so they could better serve the community while raising more money to help those in need.  The new store is evidently paying off quickly.  In the past 15 months alone, donations to various charitable organizations totaled $800,000!

The Good Neighbors Shoppe’s team to include its Board of Directors, are all volunteers from Lenoir City, Tellico Village and elsewhere around Loudon County Tennessee.  The store is open Wednesday – Saturday from 10 AM until 4 PM.  On Tuesday, the store is open from 10 AM until 7 PM.  Phone: 865-988-9925.  Website: http://www.goodneighborsshoppe.org/.

I failed to take a photo of the front of our next store… In any case, this is Premiere Consignment, LLC at 320 Lakeside Plaza in Loudon Tennessee.  It isn’t by accident that it’s located adjacent to Tellico Village and its 8,000 + residents.  While Tellico Village is primarily a retirement community, it is open to anyone who wants to buy and home and is willing to pay a POA fee.

What a market for a consignment shop!  Retirees move here from all over the country, either downsizing or replacing old furniture and décor items with new.  Then the population turns over, moving to be closer to family, downsizing or just leaving this mortal coil behind…

Like many other residents in the area we check out this store at least once a month looking for something we ‘need’.  We have purchased a nice desk lamp and a rolling desk chair from Premiere Consignment.  We’ve also sold a few items and pocketed a bit of cash.  Phone: 865-458-9721.  Website: http://www.premiereconsignment.com/.

While Bonnie, Laurie and Bill wandered up Broadway Street in Maryville Tennessee toward another shopping opportunity, I just relaxed on a park bench in Founder’s Square and took in the beautiful day and any folks that passed by.  Then I noted the old Harper Memorial Library at 300 East Church Street and I had to take a photo.

By historic standards, the former Harper Memorial Library isn’t that old…having been completed in 1931.  It was however the first full building completed to serve as a library in Maryville.  Previously, the ‘library’ in town had occupied a floor in a building downtown.  A new and much larger library was completed in 1981.  The American Red Cross used this building until 2007 when ‘dandy lions’, a gift boutique took over the structure.  That retail operation must be doing OK as they are still in business 12 years later…not bad in an era of brick and mortar retail Armageddon.

“Too bad” that the ladies didn’t spot this store.  The one they went to see was closed!  Check ‘dandy lions’ out at http://dandylionsgifts.com/.

Enough shopping already!  On to a couple of family photos…

Laurie’s sister Bonnie sent us this photo of her, Bill and their grandchildren.  Dang!  It looks like Bill is even smiling!  From the left: Collin, Keaton, Bill, Delaney, Charley, Avery, Bonnie and Elliot Jane.

…and here are our grandsons with their dad David II during a recent New York University parent’s weekend in the Big Apple, New York City.  With part of Manhattan in the background from the left is college student David III, his dad and his brother Emmett Lee.  Looks like they had a great time!  As usual Amy was the photographer so no photo of her…

Just click on any of the photos to enlarge them…

Thanks for stopping by for a visit!

Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  1. You may have seen some of my clothes at the Good Neighbors Shoppe. When I moved here the library was in the old building.

  2. Lovely family pics, friend David! The red head has the same smile as his dad :) When my kids were in school, I mostly dressed them in used store clothing until they were old enough to hold a job and thus free to spend their hard earned money … :) Love, cat.

  3. Hi Dave! The Good Neighbors Shoppe sounds like a good asset to the community, we have a similar shop here that does a brisk business and is always busy. Your family looks wonderful and I can imagine how proud you are of your son and his family. Nice building for the library! Thanks for sharing, and have a good rest of the week!
