A Popular Mexican Restaurant – Madisonville Tennessee

I maintain a list of restaurants here in the greater Knoxville area, restaurants that we haven’t visited before.  Most are either recommended by friends and acquaintances or they’re visibly popular/had a lot of cars and trucks in their parking lot when we drove by…

Las Fuentes Mexican Restaurant in Madisonville Tennessee is one of those places that always seem to have a fair number of vehicles in their parking lot and, in addition, they’ve been in business for longer than we’ve lived in the area.  Staying power can be a good indicator of quality…

The interior of Las Fuentes Mexican Restaurant is colorful to say the least!

Individual booths have been painted with various scenes and the walls, both at eye level and higher display a plethora of Mexican themed activities.  The overall effect is quite eye catching…

Our waiter brought us a basket of the ubiquitous tortilla chips accompanied by some salsa.  Both were OK but not outstanding.

Then I mistakenly ordered the appetizer shown above.  I meant to order basic queso fundido…cheese dip with added grilled chorizo.  However, I ordered this baked serving of cheese with chorizo with soft tortillas on the side.  I like the flavor but the taste and combination is just too heavy for my wife and after a couple tortillas filled with this rich combination, it became too much for me as well… (My bad…not the restaurant’s)

Laurie ordered her ‘usual’ standard in a Mexican restaurant…a chicken quesadilla.  She didn’t like it…perhaps because it wasn’t what she expected in a normal cheese quesadilla with chicken.

Our meal and mood was not helped by our service or server.  Other tables were offered a bite of a sample appetizer.  Our waiter missed it with us.  Other customers came after we did and had their food well before we did.  If our waiter was asked for extra napkins, water, etc. he had to be reminded twice.  We finally had to ask when our entrees would be ready…

I ordered Las Fuentes version of Chile Colorado.  It was pretty average…  Overall, we were quite disappointed with our experience at this restaurant and would classify it as a ‘fuel stop’ only.  We did note that despite our issues, the restaurant was quite busy.  Part of the draw might be the fact that prices here are very reasonable.

But for our money and personal satisfaction, we much prefer Cielito Lindo just a few miles north of Madisonville in Vonore Tennessee or Cinco Amigos in Lenoir City Tennessee.  Las Fuentes Mexican Restaurant is located at 4621 US Hwy 411 in Madisonville Tennessee.  Phone: 423-420-1099.  I couldn’t find a website for this restaurant.

Just click on any of the photos to enlarge them…

Thanks for stopping by for a visit!

Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  4. I definitely would not go back there, you win some and loose some! It even looks a bit weird with a row of tables down the middle and with what looks like booths on each side. The quesadillas, I agree with Laurie, by the looks. You know we have so many great Mexican restaurants around here and most are pretty good. Here's hoping you have a great weekend!

  5. Sorry for the bad experience. We haven't eaten there in years, especially now that the Vonore place has opened.
